Happy 100th Birthday, Julia Child!

Google Doodle honored Julia Child today recognizing what would have been her 100th
birthday. What kind of amateur cook and Julia Child wannabe would I be if I also didn't pay homage and respects to this great lady.  Julia Child is recognized for bringing French cuisine to the American public with her debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her subsequent television programs, the most notable of which was The French Chef, which premiered in 1963. *

The "Julie and Julia" movie really inspired me. I consider myself very much an amateur cook, but I can honestly say, I haven't used a spatula to flip a fried egg since watching this movie.  In an odd sort of way, it gave me a tiny bit of confidence in the kitchen. This movie is a true story about a lady named Julie Powell who set out to cook 524 recipes from Julia Child's cookbook 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking', in one year (365 days). Julie Powell blogged about her experience and wrote a subsequent bestselling book in 2005 which later inspired this 2009 film starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.  I love this movie!

Happy Birthday, Julia -- thanks for inspiring me to want to be a better cook.  I hope I learn a lot from you in the years to come.  I have said it before, but everything I cook for my officers is not always perfect.  No one will benefit more than my officers.

    1. Me too, Barb. I'd like to try Julia's beef bourguignon recipe -- the original recipe from her cookbook.
